The best modern Italian on the Venetian island, Caffè Centrale is a must visit. We had a delightful meal.
Unfortunately, if you’re vegetarian the menu at Caffè Centrale will disappoint – there are hardly any vegetarian food options.
Caffè Centrale is known for its cocktails and this was a great Negroni.
An eggplant and parmesan appetiser. Dinner started with a delicate potato mousse with foie gras, and burrata with olives and tomatoes.
This was followed by steak with broccoli and carrot puree.
The steak was perfectly balanced, and the burrata was so fresh, it just melted in our mouth.
It was my first time eating a potato mousse, which was absolutely the star of the night. Frothy with a creamy texture, it is hands down the best way to eat potatoes. Yes, it beats fries!
We ensured it wasn’t our last potato mousse and ordered the mousse again, this time sans the foie gras. Even better, I’d say.
We ended with a deconstructed tiramisu and a Valrohna cake. The tiramisu looked a bit disappointing when it arrived, but after the first bite, our mind was blown. It was again, the ‘best’ tiramisu in flavour and texture.
The Valrohna cake was a bit of a twist on a Mille Feuille with chunks of dark chocolate with a custard filling. Can’t really go wrong with Valrohna, can you?
This not so cafe-ish eatery left us very pleased indeed.
