Christmas Eve Dinner at Pasta Bowl Company

When you pick a restaurant for Christmas Eve dinner, you know it has to be a good, reliable one! The Pasta Bowl Company, a self-proclaimed ‘osteria’ in Gurgaon doesn’t disappoint.

Given that Christmas Eve dinner is a big deal in our family, we wanted to go to a place where we would really enjoy the food, which is why we chose The Pasta Bowl Company. It was so cheerful and festive in there on the 24th!

We started with pizzas, a bread basket, crostini (carb loving family here) and Toscana roasted sausages.

The pizza was so light and the mozzarella was delicious.

My dad ordered the tomato basil soup and found it very well flavoured.

My conchiglie pasta in pink tomato-cream sauce with vegetables was delicious. The garlic bread was the perfect way to scoop up whatever sauce was left.

My mom ordered the chicken breast stuffed with mushrooms and goat cheese and wrapped in bacon served on a bed of mashed potatoes with roasted vegetables and a brown sauce. Side of a pesto bread roll. She was raving about it with almost every bite.

I shared this dark chocolate tart with Deval. It was an actual dark chocolate tart, none of that sweet milk chocolate stuff. Perfect end to a really fabulous meal.

A very well made panacotta with a berry sauce, ordered by my mom and much appreciated. While the prices hardly make The Pasta Bowl an osteria (an inexpensive, simple eatery in Italian), I think it’s worth a visit.

Our celebrations for Christmas started at this cozy Italian restaurant. If the menu has pizza, the family has to try it, so we ordered a Margherita for starters. Not doughy, crisp with excellent sauce and great quality mozzarella.

The breads were decent but the one of the dip was too garlicky. Mudi and I decided to share our main courses and she decided on the Mushroom Cannelloni and Gnocchi in pesto.

The cannelloni tasted great when hot but somehow lost its flavour as it got cold. I felt that the mushroom stuffing was bit too dry without any sauce in it and therefore lost its appeal as it got cold.

The pesto was quite flavourful and made the gnocchi enjoyable. The meal finished off with the Lemon Torte, extremely good, pity its served as a half portion! It got demolished even before a decent photograph could be taken.

The Pasta Bowl Company certainly deserves another visit. The service was attentive though the servers could know a bit more about the food they serve.

We started the meal with a pizza topped with prosciutto, ham, arugula and parmesan, definitely a winner.

And the farmhouse veggie pizza.

Next were the Italian roasted sausages, tossed with beans and veggies, also very good.

I ordered the Mezzelune a la pana which is pasta stuffed with bacon in a white sauce with ricotta cheese and garnished with wild mushrooms. This is a new item on their winter menu.

thefamilytablepastabowl22

Not to take away from the freshly made pasta or the rich creamy white sauce, but I would have preferred it to be a tad more saucy. Having said that, I do feel that The Pasta Bowl Company is a place where you can discuss your order with the chef and go with his recommendation.

The affogato – a good end to the meal!
