Lunch at 361 & Dinner at Amaranta
A day of dining at The Oberoi Gurgaon that left us indulged, satiated and happy.
Going to the Oberoi Gurgaon always makes me happy. It’s my go-to place to switch off from the world, and regain my sanity.
On this winter afternoon, we had an Indian lunch at 361.
Ordered the kebab platter accompanied by kaali dal and a portion of good old tandoori chicken.
Unfortunately this time it wasn’t what I expected, and the flavours were just about par. The dal was tasty but a tad too thick. The tandoori chicken was like any other chicken kebab but did not have the flavours you expect from a juicy yet well charred tandoori chicken. The naan and roti lacked freshness. Maybe it was a bad day or maybe it’s time to stop ordering North Indian food at 361 . . .
We finished with an excellent chocolate orange dessert. Thank god for small mercies.
The same evening we had dinner at Amaranta.
The menu is inspired by coastal cuisine from around the country with a modern twist that you least expect.
It was a fantastic meal that started with crab cakes, a coconut pumpkin soup and podi (gunpowder) bread, which if you’re a podi lover you have to try.
Following this was the most delicious lamb main course accompanied with Malabar parotha, made along the lines of a fluffy pastry puff.
We also tried the paneer accompanied by a vegetarian ‘bisque’ for lack of a better description.
A palate stimulator to say the least. Save an outing to Amaranta for a special meal when you have the luxury of time to savour each course and enjoy the little details.
