AnnaMaya at the Andaz
The launch of the new eatery and self acclaimed ‘food hall’ at the stylish Andaz hotel in Aerocity was a treat indeed.
The launch of the new eatery and self acclaimed ‘food hall’ at the stylish Andaz hotel in Aerocity was a treat indeed.
A newspaper advertisement drew us to this new gourmet food hall, a version of the famous Eataly, but not the same scale. We arrived thinking its a food supermarket with some food counters. Turned out that its an eatery with some retail, centered around organic, free-trade and fresh local produce.
We were also in luck that it was their launch day and they were generously giving out food samplers.
Starting out with a fizzy lemonade which had a hint of watermelon – refreshing. The food was a mix of Italian and Indian. The salad sampler had a nice burrata with a sliver of pesto laced naan.
Other salads had fresh herbs and leaves from this revolutionary micro-farm within the eatery. The linguine with butter and peas was simply and nicely done as was the marination on the paneer tikka.
They had tandoori shakarkhandi (sweet potato) was well roasted reminding me of this simple street offering. They should have added kamrak (Starfruit) to it too. The dal makhani and naan was average.
The desserts deserve a special mention.
The lemon cake with fresh cream and strawberries and blueberry cheesecake were exceptional.
The gelatos had unique flavours but tasted unexciting. It deserves another visit on a normal day to try their regular menu to get a better sense of the food but its a nice informal place to catch some food and fun.
While the AnnaMaya wasn’t really a food hall, it was definitely a great dining/retail experience.
In that one could walk around and meet the vendors who AnnaMaya was sourcing produce and ingredients from; each compulsarily local, artisanal and giving back to society.
There was my favourite jam & relish maker, Sue’s Homemade Preserves with mini sample selection of her best sellers, complementary for anyone to try. Of course we stocked up on those!
Such cute packaging, and the best part is that they’re always something new and seasonal on offer.
The lovely founder of Sue’s, Suniti Dhindsa.
Artisanal salts from Original Indian Table. Delicious garlic salt.
The smell of freshly baked bread. Impetus to buy obviously.
DevBhumi honey, in a variety of flavours.
Indah chocolates.
At the dessert counter.
Meringue dreams.
Create your own sundae.
Earth loaf chocolates were so good that we bought 5. Raw, cacao, organic and naturally sweetened – what more could you ask for.
Everyone’s favourite coffee it seems. Well done, Blue Tokai.
Micro-greens growing on coconut coir. These are used in all the salads and sandwiches, directly from the coir bed. Farm to table!
I loved this sculpture of a pomegranate.
And this installation. AnnaMaya Food Hall seems promising indeed.
