Labonel opened its doors in Jubilee Hills this month. As we neared the location we saw the beautiful glass windows and navy canopies and we knew we had arrived.
It was the very navy and gold that has brought many a smile to our faces.
My dear friend Nadeem, the most efficient manager of Labonel, invited us to the tasting. Of course not that one hasn’t been savouring Labonel for years, the excitement of the new store was too much to not swing by just to have a “taste”, if not of the cakes, but to see how Mehnaz (the lady behind it all) had raised the bar.
A cake boutique like no other, sprawling over 5000 sq feet allows you to take your time to select your cake, have a taste of what’s available, and then place your request. Cakes may be bought only with prior orders unless you want the brownies, cookies or some tea cakes.
There’s a lovely little area to wait while your cake is packed.
If you walk ahead to choose your wrapping you can have a little peep into the state of the art kitchen where the magic happens.
Some of my favourites have over the years been honey walnut cake, vanilla fudge and orange Cointreau. This lemony poppy seed cake was divine. I did taste a few, sigh.

Never try and customize a cake in there, they know what they are doing, and don’t need your suggestions. And if I may add, thank you Mehnaz for never bothering with fondant.
