TFT Travels: Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra

It’s a stunning property with exemplary service, and yes, you can see the Taj from almost every window.

Our first glimpse of the hotel – beautiful stone elephants, and landscaped lawns.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas1a

Pretty water fountains dot the property.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas17

The grand chandelier and massive floral decorations (changed daily for maximum impact).

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas16

The beautiful lobby.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas2a

Delicate flute music wafts through the hotel as guests wander.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas1

Marble white and wood reflects the design aesthetic of the hotel.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas4

Our serene, plush rooms.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas2

The best reading nook possible. It had a view of the Taj.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas3

We looked out at Taj Mahal, as does almost every space at the Amarvilas.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas5

The lounge, with a view.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas6

So much to take in . . . the details of the interiors were stunning.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas7

Gorgeous cocktail bar. Hanging behind it is a painted map of the Taj Mahal grounds.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas14

Happy hour at the Amarvilas means you look out at the Taj some feet away and enjoy a drink! Our cocktail of choice was ‘The Mumtaz Mahal’ – watermelon chunks, pomegranate seeds, basil, orange juice and white rum. Very special indeed.

The Taj, staring back at us.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas13

You actually felt like pinching yourself to believe your eyes. So much history to this most iconic of buildings, and its just there, sitting pretty outside the door.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas11

The pool, with a view.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas18

As pretty by night.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas20

Esphahan is their Indian fine dining restaurant.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas21

A selection of their finest kebabs, delicious and beautifully presented.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas22

The thali with silver service of course. A feast not just for the eyes!

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas19

Such a big dinner, and yet the breakfast menu looked enticing. We had an early start as we wanted to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise, a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas23

The first glimpse of the Taj, almost pink in the dawn light. Goosebumps.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas24

What an architectural marvel – one can just sit and look at it. The grounds are quiet and peaceful, and actually encourage visitors to rest a while, absorb the surroundings.

TheFamilyTableAmarvilas25

Lounging by the pool, a great way to absorb the beauty of this magnificent hotel. In our humble opinion, if there is any hotel that sets the standard for service, it is the Oberoi Vilas. We’re so glad we got to enjoy a slice of this heavenly life.
